About Our District
Excellence for the 21st Century

Mission

The North Union Local Schools District Mission is  “To promote excellence and to prepare each student for success in the 21st Century.”

Our students may elect to go directly into the job market, military, tech school or college.  We want them to understand and be prepared with a 21st century focus on skills such as critical thinking, emerging technologies, communication, work ethic and innovations which will be important in maintaining the American way of life.

Vision

The vision of the North Union Local School District is to develop children with the R.A.R.E. characteristics that lead to success:

Respect – Respect others, property and the natural resources we have been given.

Achievement – Believe in yourself and know that you can achieve with hard work, perseverance and determination.

Responsibility – You are accountable for your actions and productivity, and to the society in which you wish to live.

Excellence – Strive to do your best, set high standards for yourself and the work you produce.  To continue to be the greatest country in the world, we will need new citizens that want to strive toward excellence.

This is wrapped up nicely in our middle school creed:   I pledge to be a RARE student by showing RESPECT for myself and others, working hard to ACHIEVE goals, taking RESPONSIBLITY for my actions and striving for EXCELLENCE.

District Goals
  1. Pass all State indicators with a passing rate of 85% or higher
  2. Reach a performance index of 100 by raising our accelerated and advanced scores by 2-5% per year.
  3. Meet AYP (Average Yearly Progress) on special sub groups
Our Schools

Over 32 million dollars was invested in our infrastructure by the local community and the Ohio School Facilities Commission.  With our elementary opening in 2004, high school renovations completed in January 2009, and our new middle school open in August 2009, we have high tech buildings sitting on a lovely campus. Engaging students with Smartboards, WiFi and modern classrooms, our staff works diligently to teach excellence for the 21st century. We offer distance learning, pre-engineering, educational options, and a wide variety of differentiation of instruction to meet the needs of students.  Students have the opportunity to be involved in extracurricular activities such as the arts, academic clubs, athletics and our nationally recognized FFA program. For the past three years, North Union has been rated an “Excellent” school district and we are proud to serve this community.

Community

Our school district, composed of 1500 students within a 162 square mile boundary line, is part of a close-knit community that is supportive of children and youth growing as learners.  We are surrounded by farms and a dedicated America workforce in business and factories both north and south of us.  The village of Richwood is the hub of our area with our campus located on the north edge of the town. We are surrounded by support from the warm-hearted people in the townships of Claibourne, Dover, Jackson, Leesburg, Liberty,Taylor, Washington and York in Union County, and Scioto and Thompson townships in Delaware County.
