Union FFA will have a new banner to hang, as it celebrates its 6th National FFA title and
over 30 state FFA Career Development titles. Friday, November 1st, its FFA
Agronomy team — Seniors Avery Zwayer and Joel Krebehenne, Juniors Dean Wolfe

in Indianapolis.
In
addition to the team championship, Avery placed 2nd as an
individual, Kaylee Smith 3rd, Dean Wolfe 4th and
Joel Krebehenne 5th. Each of the team members won $1,000 scholarships to the
school of their choice. There were 36 states competing and 144

The team earned a trip
to the national convention by winning a state championship last spring.
Agronomy is one of 24 Career Development Events that cover a range of lifelong
skills that are applicable to a real world career. Some of the 24 CDE events
have students competing as individuals and some completing as teams.
The team practiced 4-5
days a week after and during school with coach Jared Evans, learning how to
select and evaluate crops, identify seeds, identify diseases, identify tools
and farm machinery, & crop and seed analysis. The two-day competition
included a presentation on agricultural issues, a team activity, and a test.
Congratulations to our
National Champions!!
