First Graders Visit the Old School

First Graders Visit the Old School

In class, students have been comparing schools from long ago to school today.  At the old school house, they were able to sit at  old-fashioned wooden desks, write on the chalkboards and ring the school bell.  They saw inkwells, oil lamps and school books held by belts - unlike our backpacks of today.  Students also saw historic black and white photos that were taken at the one room school house, wooden sleds used at recess and a wood burning stove with a kettle to warm water.  They also viewed the outhouse and took a turn pumping water at the old water pump. After their visit, students wrote how schools long ago and today are alike and different.
