Message from the Superintendent

Dear Parents and North Union Community,

Thank you for the warm welcome to the North Union Local School District Community. The experience so far has been enriching, awe-inspiring, and extremely gracious. As an educator, I have the opportunity to see the enrichment of learning from a new perspective and new community. The students, staff, and community have a passion for learning that comes from the roots of compassion, discovery, and pursuit of success. I am Home, Thank You.

I am thankful to walk the halls of the Elementary School listening and watching students learn to read, add and subtract, problem solve, and discover. The very welcoming Middle School staff and students are excited to share their latest discoveries and creativity. The High School students have shown their success on the national, statewide, and local levels. I have been very fortunate to have had the opportunity to watch our agronomy team clinch their 3rd national title in Louisville, KY, our football team compete in the playoffs in Cincinnati, and our NUAge choir sing their beautiful notes while entertaining our community at the coffee shop uptown.

As we celebrate and strive to inform our district and community, we want to point to our website as a source of district and building information. All of our building principals, our transportation department, and the superintendent now have Twitter accounts. Please follow us @NUES_Principal, @NUHS_Principal, @NUMS_Principal, @NU_Trans, and @NU_Supt. We will share celebrations, general information, links to our web, and reminders, and yes, the snow days and delays will come first and fast from Twitter as well as the traditional Honeywell Instant Phone, Text, and Email.

We are excited to announce Vickie Hoffman, current Elementary Principal as our new Chief Academic Officer. This position was formerly held by Dave Harmon who moved on to become Superintendent of Benjamin Logan Local Schools. She will be responsible for all teaching and learning within North Union Schools. In addition, we are proud to announce Darlene Allison, current Elementary Assistant Principal, as the new Principal at North Union Elementary School. Mrs. Allison and Mrs. Hoffman will do wonderful things for the students of North Union in their new roles for the 2016-17 school year.

We have four open positions at our schools. We will be filling Mrs. Allison’s former position as Elementary Assistant Principal. As a part of our procedures for staff who are retired and have been rehired, we will post their positions each year. We currently have three positions that are retired and rehired, High School Principal, High School Mathematics Teacher, and Middle School Intervention Specialist. These positions will be filled in the best interest of the district based on the applicant candidates. All four positions are posted on our website, and can be viewed by clicking the “employment” tab on the left hand side of the page or by going to this link, http://www.n-union.k12.oh.us/Employment.aspx. Please, refer anyone who may be interested in these positions to our website or this link to apply.

We will be seeking public input about our administrative positions via an online survey. Please look for this on Twitter or our website in the next few weeks.

Enjoy your weekend, Go Wildcats,

Richard J. Baird, Superintendent
