North Union Local School District News Article

Message from the Superintendent

Dear North Union Community,

Pending approval by the North Union Local Schools Board of Education, It is my pleasure to introduce Mrs. Janel Chapman as the new Principal of North Union High School upon my recommendation. My recommendation will go in front of the board at the March 21, 2016 board of education meeting.

Mrs. Chapman comes to us with most recent experience as the Guidance Counselor at the Marysville Early College High School. She has also served at Marysville High School, South-Western City School District, Jonathan Alder School District, as well as the West Geauga School District. In addition to Guidance Counselor, she has served in the role of Support Teacher, Gifted Intervention Specialist, and Middle School and High School Choir Director.

She was on the team to create and launch the STEM/early college high school when the Marysville District received a Straight A Grant. She was instrumental in building collaborative partnerships with Columbus State Community College, Ohio Hi-Point J.V.S., Honda of America, CenturyLink, Honda R&D, Scotts Miracle-Gro, and the Ohio University College of Health Sciences & Professions.

She created STEM Talks and Women in STEM Day, arranging speakers and mentors for student career exploration. She has also been a presenter at the All-Ohio Counseling Conference, speaking on strategies for reaching At-Risk students and The Nurtured Heart Approach.

A team of North Union administrators interviewed eight highly qualified candidates from a pool of 45 applicants for the position. Mrs. Chapman was one of four finalists that we put in front of a staff panel and community panel of interviewers. She came out as a finalist and highly recommended from both panels. After comprehensive reference research, Mrs. Chapman will be the recommendation made to the North Union Board of Education to serve as the Principal of North Union High School beginning August 1, 2016.

We look forward to adding her knowledge, leadership, and compassion to our already great school. Congratulations and welcome to Mrs. Chapman, and thank you, North Union staff and community, for your input, help and support throughout the process.

Sincerely,
Richard J. Baird, Superintendent
