Renewal Levy

October 2020

Dear North Union Community Members:

As members of the North Union Board of Education, we are encouraging the community to continue to keep our schools moving in a forward direction. On November 3, 2020 there will be a renewal of an issue that was first placed on the ballot in 1996. This renewal has been reduced from 5.0 mills (at our last renewal) to 2.95 mills and means NO NEW TAXES for North Union taxpayers. The millage is reduced to collect a flat funding rate of approximately $680,000 per year for the operation of our buildings. This levy is very important to the financial stability of our district.

Thanks to our community’s past support over the last five years of this levy, we have students that have won State and National academic competitions; the NU athletic programs from middle to high school have seen great improvement in facilities, programs, and support; and the Arts programs have expanded in curriculum offerings and student involvement. Our Career Technical programs have expanded opportunities for students to earn more industry recognized credentials. We have been able to operate and improve educational programs, purchase textbooks, replace buses and retain great teachers and staff that leads to continued success in learning and achievement.

Our community has provided the North Union Local School District with beautiful facilities and we have the responsibility to keep them operationally strong. Expenses today continue to increase for our school district. We hope you will help us stay strong and maintain a school system that lives up to our mission.

“Together with our community, Preparing students for a changing world, Challenging students to grow, Empowering students to achieve with purpose”

Please give careful consideration to this NO NEW TAXES renewal issue. We are open to your questions and comments.

Thank you.
