The district received notice today from the Union County Health Department regarding a suspected case of the Mumps
in our school district. A North Union Elementary student was recently diagnosed as having
a case of the mumps. There are two tests
required to confirm a suspected case.
The first test was positive. Unfortunately, the second test has a higher
level of in accurate results. As such,
that secondary test was not performed.
The Union County Health Department is treating this suspected case as if
it is a confirmed case. As such, North Union staff members are following all Union County Health
Department protocols and guidance regarding this suspected viral illness.
See the link below for the notice from the Union County Health Department regarding the symptoms and exposure timeframe as well as the incubation period for when your child could potentially develop Mumps-like symptoms. Elementary and Middle school students were sent home with a copy of this letter this afternoon.
