Gym Space!!!

This week North Union Elementary 5th Graders are working in the gym on an activity called "Gym Space". Students in Mrs. Davis' first period are learning about area of two-dimensional shapes. So, they decided to use the gym floor as a grid and tape triangles, trapezoids and parallelograms on the floor. They are using grid paper to draw each shape to scale and finding the areas of each shape in square units. They are also using their measurement skills to find the area of two of the 2-dimensional shapes in inches and centimeters. Finally, they are using what they have learned about Pythagorean Theorem to find the hypotenuse of the right triangle.
